Freak The Mighty

Updated: Nov 17

Author: Rodman Philbrick

Type of Book: Young Adult Fiction

This book is about the friendship between two boys, Kevin, who is incredibly short but incredibly intelligent, and Max, who is extremely large and quite dumb. Together, they form an extraordinary duo known as "Freak the Mighty" as they overcome the challenges of middle school and their daily lives.

My favorite character in the book is Kevin because he shows us he can think fast and is reliable. First, he helps Max escape from various bullies who are chasing them. Second, he helps the police track down where Killer Kane took Max. Lastly, he saves Max from being strangled to death by Killer Kane. You can say that without Kevin, Max would be dead by now.

My favorite part of the book was when Kevin saves Max from Killer Kane, who tries strangling him to death. Kevin saves Max by tricking Killer Kane that in his squirt gun, there is a very dangerous chemical that can severely damage his eye, but it is just vinegar and salt mixed with sparkling water. The author wrote, "Sulphuric acid," Freak says, raising up the gun and sighting along the barrel. "Good old reliable H2SO4, an oily, colorless, corrosive liquid used in dyes, paints, explosives, and many chemical experiments." Killer Kane says, "You're lying, kid; you can't fool me." That's when Freak squeezes the trigger and sprays him right in the eyes."

You should read this book because it beautifully captures the importance of friendship, loyalty, and overcoming obstacles. The story is heartwarming and emotional, reminding us that true strength comes from within and that even the most unlikely friendships can lead to greatness. "Freak the Mighty" is a powerful and inspiring tale. If you read this book and liked it, you should read:
