Title: Black Brother Black Brother
Author: Jewell Parker Rhodes
Type of Book: Fiction
This book is about a boy named Donte who experiences discrimination and racism at his predominantly white school. His brother, Trey, on the other hand, is seen as the "golden boy" due to his lighter skin color. Donte must manage these challenges while also being bullied by most of the kids in his school.
My favorite character in the book was Donte because even when he was bullied, he still persevered and fought against his bullies, proving to them that he wasnt a nobody and that he was a fighter.
My favorite part of the book was when Donte found his passion for fencing. Through this sport, he not only discovers a talent he never knew he had but also learns valuable lessons about discipline, hard work, and channeling his emotions into fencing.
You should read this book because it tackles important themes such as racism, identity, and self-acceptance in a relatable way for seventh-grade readers. Jewell Parker Rhodes beautifully writes a story of struggle and perseverance that will impact anyone who reads it. If you read this book and liked it, you should read:
